Please note Read in July 2012 just updating the order and formattingBook Info Genre Urban Fantasy Reading Level Adult My Thoughts I’ve been interested in the evolution of Azrael aka TCTrench Coat aka the Archer; he’s sort of analogous to a slightly less charming Spike in that he started off as the Big Bad and then gradually has infiltrated himself into Zoë’s Scooby Gang Every scene where he’s doing something kind of inane like eating grapes I see in my mind that scene from Buffy the Vampire Slayer in Season 4 where Spike and Giles are arguing about Spike eating all the Weeta BixOne thing I’ve really enjoyed about these books is they turn our normal concepts of right and wrong completely on their ear – the Abysmal creatures are often uite honorable and the Ethereals we’ve met are mostly grade A jerks I have always enjoyed series that are willing to move beyond stereotypes like this and this is no exceptionOne thing bothers me – this Stella chick that showed up in the last book There was something off about her but she has disappeared in this book except for her trying to gain legal control over Dags This untied thread bothers me; I just know she’s going to come back and bite everyone on the buttNow to avoid spoilers some incoherent ranting AUGH Rhonda how could she? And Dags grumble grumble Why? WHY???????So there you go I’ll be eagerly waiting for the next book in the series Cherubim whenever it comes out I just have a short story left before I’m finished with all the books I could gather in this series so watch for that review in the next couple hoursDisclosure I received a signed paperback edition of this book from the author in exchange for an honest reviewSynopsis In an attempt to gain power over the borders between the Outer and Inner planes Adiran Martiniue locked his daughter inside the Abysmal Throne with the intention of using her as his puppet With the borders between the planes closed Zoë was cut off from her friends and family AloneWhat he didn't count on was his daughter receiving help from an ancient consciousness that has existed for centuries Now this entity has promised her a way to break the bonds of the Abysmal Throne and return physically to the Physical Plane and her lover Dags McConnellBut should Zoë trust this voice in her head? The last person she trusted was her father — and look where that got her The Ethereals are after Dags for the magical tome fused to his soul and in order to protect him Zoë has to make a choice to trust the Geist to escape or truly become the Phantasm of the Abysmal Plane

OMG I've been waiting for this book for soooooo long at least to me it felt that way and it was AWESOME If you have not read the previous Zoe Martiniue books DO NOT attempt to start with this one You will be hopelessly lost and confused For those of you bright people who have read the previous books I think you will be pleased with this installmentAll of the usual suspects are here and there were some very intriguing plot twists that I didn't see coming Some ppl may be distressed by a certain turn of events at the end but without being spoilerific I have to say that I was actually happy about the outcome There was also a character who showed their true colors and I may have jumped up and down like a lunatic yelling that I knew they were a no good untrustworthy rat bastard but the less said about that the betterAll in all I think it was a great addition to the series and I can't wait to see what Phaedra Weldon will pull out of her hat for book 6

Like the other books in the series it's very confusing This time it took me at least 75 100 pages to figure out what was going on Lots of info dumps and theological ? discussions that were simply beyond my grasp If you haven't read the first four books in this series DO NOT try to start with this one You won't have any idea WTH is going on Heck I read the first four and had difficulty I love the characters and the world building once you figure out what's really going on is excellent and different than anything else I've read That Rhonda is surely going to get what's coming to her I hope like hell someone enters that picture that is a better witch than she is and puts her in her place Damn I wanted to smack her silly by the end of the book Poor Zoe had such a shock it's a wonder she didn't slap her silly I look forward to Dominion and hope it's easier to jump into than this one

Finished this book last night and it's honestly been one of my favs of the series so far even tho I absolutely HATED the endinghoping that what happened will be cleared up in a way that makes me smile rather than cry by the next bookbut desperately waiting to see what happens as always

  5. Anika Anika says:

SPOILERSI love this book I think its the best one yet Everyone is seeing Rhonda's true colors Okay this book is about getting Zoe out of the eggthrone her father tricked her into and putting the missing page that Zoe has with her which acts a link for her to Dags so that she can astro project as a familiar taking the place of Maureen back into the Gri so that Dage would be fully himself which he is sort but the book does not allow him access since this 1 page is missing So Zoe and Dags are sort of together or least try to be but she can't feel his touch and vice verser him because she's his familiar which sort of bums her out But in this book she's open that she loves him and he asks her then when she's out of the eggthrone back on earth in the Physical Plane that they would get married Zoe is so excited that she tells him yes but meanwhile Rhonda hears this and Zoe knows she's hurting but she acting different At first I thought that maybe she might be a traitor because she aura looks differnt to Zoe I mean even Dags tells her his plan of marriage and kids And thenokay the day comes when they go get Zoe and Rhonda puts Dags in a comadeep sleep to prepare to remove the book out of him to put the page that Zoe has with her back in the book to restore Dags to a 100% and she writes a spell give it to Joe who goes with TC and Zoe back to egg where he tries to pull her out but can't get thur but TC does and switches places with Zoe So Zoe's back yippee But because she on in the egg for about 4 months with no food or water she passes out once back and is taken to the hospital where she's unconscious for about a month When she's awake Daniel is there awwww and he avoids the uestion pretaining to Dags Its not until she taken to the new compound and sees Dags that she notices something is wrong She almost throws herself on him but he stops her and even though he's glad but treats her like a friend Zoe wanted to run out the room but Daniel holds on to her Basically Rhonda is a witch literally and used her magic to pull out the pages of Zoe and Dags romantically so when Dags wakes up he thinks that Zoe and him are just good friends only which breaks her hearts Zoe of course almost kills Rhonda but stops But what gets me is that everyone knows what Rhonda did except for Dags and so far he does not know anything is wrong But Alice should be able to show him images of when he was with Zoe and he never liked Rhonda so my thing is how can they be together when she was never his type regardless that she wiped him romantic mermories of Zoe but I'm kinda happy Daniel in the picture and I hope they will hook and be a couple cause I feel in love with him in the first book and they had serious chemistry and i like my man taller than me which Daniel is But in the next book I hope Rhonda gets what's coming to her Dags still leaves her for another woman I can't wait for the next book I cried during the end chapters but I was happy Daniel is there

In an attempt to gain power over the borders between the Outer and Inner planes Adiran Martiniue locked his daughter inside the Abysmal Throne with the intention of using her as his puppet With the borders between the planes closed Zoë was cut off from her friends and family Alone What he didn't count on was his daughter receiving help from an ancient consciousness that has existed for centuries Now this entity has promised her a way to break the bonds of the Abysmal Throne and return physically to the Physical Plane and her lover Dags McConnell But should Zoë trust this voice in her head? 7. Karen Karen says:

Zoe is great but Geist does not do her character justice This book was just not tight enough It had lots of typos and grammatical errors It needed another round of proofreading at a minimum and Zoe did not seem to be her usual sassy self There is just so much good stuff here that it makes me sad that it was not properly developed and that I was unable to love it I hope that Phaedra will be able to find another major publisher to work with her because I think she deserves it and I want the real Zoe back

  8. Thomas Thomas says:

I really enjoy this series The story is complex and interesting Characters grow and change and are expanded uponThis should be a 4star review However the book really needed a human proofreader Gramatical problems detract from reading enjoyment An example is caught like a dear in the headlghts It's the wrong deerOverall it's a great story and series I'm looking forward to the next ne and hoping a word processor wasn't the only proofreader

  9. Darcy Darcy says:

I used to like this series but the last book was tough for me to read there were so many changes and not good ones After 50 pages in this one I am giving up I don't care for the new direction things are going I miss the way the characters used to interact and I miss Zoe's wit In the end this one just wasn't for me

  10. Marry Cain Marry Cain says:

I loved the book—even though I had no idea what was happening The story itself—the triangle between Dags Zoe and Rhonda was easy to follow I wasn't expecting the ending which is what sold it for me My initial reaction is that if you want to read this series read it from book ONE Don't jump in the middle 'cause you're gonna be a bit confused
