    Number 2 in the Dan Taylor series and it was a teeny bit better than book 1, White Gold, because the plot was slightlybelievable Though it still needed the reader to suspend belief But that is what makes this kind of thriller thrilling outrageously horrible villains, heroic main characters who can suffer almost anything and bounce back without a single visit to a hospital and stunningly beautiful women who can do anything a man can do All good fun Under Fire has all those things plus a Number 2 in the Dan Taylor series and it was a teeny bit better than book 1, White Gold, because the plot was slightlybelievable Though it still needed the reader to suspend belief But that is what makes this kind of thriller thrilling outrageously horrible villains, heroic main characters who can suffer almost anything and bounce back without a single visit to a hospital and stunningly beautiful women who can do anything a man can do All good fun Under Fire has all those things plus an excellent story, lots of action and a totally unforseen and amazing twist at the end Very well worth reading

    Oh, oh, oh How to begin this review Do you have any idea how hard it is listening to an audio book of an action thriller, feeling yourself gravitating to the edge of your seat and then realising that you can t because you re driving and the steering wheel and your concerns for your own safety are in your way Well, that s what i went through while listening to Under Fire, the second instalment in the Dan Taylor series by Rachel Amphlett Narrated by Craig Beck, this was perhaps eventen Oh, oh, oh How to begin this review Do you have any idea how hard it is listening to an audio book of an action thriller, feeling yourself gravitating to the edge of your seat and then realising that you can t because you re driving and the steering wheel and your concerns for your own safety are in your way Well, that s what i went through while listening to Under Fire, the second instalment in the Dan Taylor series by Rachel Amphlett Narrated by Craig Beck, this was perhaps eventense and exciting than White Gold had been as our intrepid hero put himself in harms way to stop a terrorist attack which was designed to interrupt the fuel supply across the UK, with global economic and diplomatic repercussions.Everything about this book screams tension, from the early scenes where Dan nearly blows himself up while disarming a bomb in a controlled exercise, through to the early attacks on fuel supplies in Qatar amongst many other terrorist activities And with Dan not entirely off the hook with regard to the goings on which saw him preventing a terrorist attack in the City during White Gold, his life andliterally his freedom, depends on his ability to solve the case before the worst can happen.Each of the characters in this book are very well developed and rounded, I have really grown to like Dan, the ultimate action hero, across these first two books Nothing seems to phase him and even though he has a traumatic past, his dedication to the safety of the country is unwavering And Mitch What can you say about him the exact opposite of Dan, he has a definite lovable rogue quality about him.As I say, I listened to the audio version of this book and it was once again narrated to perfection by Craig Beck He really managed to capture the tension of the situation in his narration, each character having their own quirks and ticks which made it easy to follow And there were a lot of twists in this book, a huge number of action sequences in which subtle changes in narration really captured the stresses the characters were under Brilliantly done.I have to be honest, and give full credit to the author for this, but despite knowing who the enemy was throughout, which country it was that was trying to sabotage the supply of fuel to the UK by Qatar, I was still taken by surprise by the ending I had not seen it coming And it is always good to see strong female characters running through an action book This was no exception, with both Philippa and Antonia, the daughter of a Qatari Sheik, strong and feisty characters, capable of holding their own amongst the men.From the very opening chapter, a scene involving the abduction of a computer programmer on a dark a stormy night, Rachel Amphlett delivers a series of assured blows, stunning me, knocking me back with the unexpected and yet drawing me on with the need to see the conclusion To see how everything tied together To see if Dan could stop the terrorists before a disaster beyond their imagination could occur From characters, to setting, to creating white knuckle tension, Amphlett has put together a brilliant story And I have to give full credit to her for her skill, as she writes with such confidence and credibility in a genre typically dominated by men She has really drawn me into this series, and I am keen to read onward, guaranteeing a fan for life in me I haven t enjoyed action so much since the early days of reading Tom Clancy novels in my teens.A tense, shocking and gender challenging 5 stars
