I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest reviewIt's been a while since I've read a historical romance I tend to prefer contemporary but I do on occasion pick up a historical if it peeks my interestUnfortunately I wasn't all that impressed with this one From the blurb I was expecting a heartfelt romance with the hero struggling with the ghosts of his past While I liked Noah well enough the blurb made it sounds as if he'd be dealing with issues from his time as an officer in the Union army during the Civil War Instead the war had nothing to do with what was keeping him from going after the woman he wantedAbby was a good character and for the most part I enjoyed her While there were a few things she did that irritated me I had to remind myself that she was only twenty years old and living in a very different timeThere were a lot of characters in this book and a lot of point of view changes The romance between Noah and Abby ended up getting pushed to the side with everything else going on I felt the driving romance took a backseat to setting up future storiesAlso I feel I should mention that this is a 'fade to black' romance There is a lot of angsta lot of build upand then nothing We make it to the bed with them and then it's the next morning After all that build up I was expecting I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet romance set in the frontier west

I loved this book and this series I love returning to Splendor Montana where a new town is getting started and the people are warm and friendly They help each other and the town to grow and prosperNoah was a Major in the Union army His job as a sniper haunts him He is now the blacksmith in Splendor Montana and even though he has grown his business he knows he's not good enough for the wealthiest young woman in the territory He has known her since she was in school back east and respects her but he must not allow a close relationship with her since her father would never approve of them seeing each otherNoah's best friend Gabe doesn't understand Noah and tries to talk with him but Noah is hard headed and he is sticking to his point of viewAbby grew up rich but lonely Her father has kept her as a prize and wants only the most educated and refined young man for her but Abby has been in love with Noah since she was young He's the only man she has ever wanted Her father is furious over the fact that Abby spends any time with Noah after all he's just a blacksmithWhen rustler go after Abby's father's herd he takes matters into his own hands It's an exxciting story that will surprise you with the twists in it

Both Noah and Abby were strong interesting people People who are too proud for their own good especially Noah A perfect lesson of how pride can cause so many unnecessary problems It was like one step forward with them and then four steps back He kisses her and then cold shoulders her; all for her own good of course She's wealthy and he's so far below her socially and financially; its agony for everyone Even for those around them friends can see how crazy in love they are with each other The friends were also a good addition to the story as well A couple of times I had to do a uick review of a few people because I started to get lost in the midst of them They did what they could to help the two love crossed people but nothing much seemed to help for long Abby's father was wealthy but he sure made some seriously bone headed decisions He wasn't much liked in town but Abby was and she finally finds a way off the ranch That doesn't mean all her problems are over and her father still tries to bully her back home Abby finds she has strengths she didn't know she had as she begins to stand on her own She still loves and wants Noah through it all and she's used to finding a way to get what she wants It just doesn't seem to be working out all that well for her with him There was a good outlawsrustlers story at work in the story as well And Abby ended up showing she had some gumption when she finds herself in a dangerous situation or two I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

In Shirley Davies’s third installment in her ‘Redemption Mountain Series’ just might be my favorite of the lot “Sunrise Ridge” brings the local blacksmith Noah Brandt to the fore We saw him in the previous novels as a background character – and intriguing one now we learn his storyThough fiction Davies’s has a way of creating a realistic landscape speckled with moments that reflect honest emotion and the conflict that can arise in day to day life as well as the complicated situations that make for a great novel Noah has always had a thing for Abigail Tolbert daughter of a well to do local cattle family feelings that Abigail has long returned When Noah fails to take action or make his own affections known Abigail takes matters into her own hands when they meet at a wedding Unfortunately her father sees the event and considering the time – promptly intervenes and sends Abigail far away to protect her This sets up a hard beginning to the kind of romance that will charm you

She has done it again and this time I don't think she can top herself With Sunrise Ridge Shirleen Davies has created a book so realistic so thought provoking and so full of attention grabbing twists that the reader can't help but call in sick for work put on a pot of tea and read it cover to cover until they have gotten their fill of the author's masteryHere is a uote from the author's bio that I thought I would share here as it relates so well to Sunrise Ridge But her real passion is writing emotionally charged stories of flawed people who find redemption through love and acceptance This uote describes Sunrise Ridge perfectly NO other author can speak to the reader through her characters as well as she can and it really helps you understand them where they came from and what the Old West holds for them in the future Buy this book sit down and read it and you will see why she always receives glowing reviews for her books

Shirleen Davies' Sunrise Ridge book 3 in the Redemption Mountain series is a historical western romance about a relationship between two very uniue people Set in 19th century Montana the novel follows blacksmith Noah Brandt former Union Army sharpshooter and Abigail Tolbert a determined young woman who wants to find her own way in life The two have a complicated history together and they must navigate all the complexities if they'll ever find true loveAuthor Shirleen Davies writes a story that balances each character's past and present situations setting up a need for the characters to reconcile the two before they move forward I am very impressed with how Davies is able to transport the reader to the historical western frontier and see how place plays a role in the characters' lives If you're a fan of western romances you'll enjoy this book
