Anne Clifford's story was definitely an interesting one but I'm not sure the method in which it was told was the best This is written in a semi diary format which I felt took away from the story somewhat I found myself uestioning what was fiction and what was the truth when in time the section I was reading was from etc It just felt disjointed I don't think there are many books written about Anne so if you are interested in her story I say check this one out But if you are a general Tudor era fan I'm not sure you'll get much out of this one I received this copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Firstly thank you to NetGalley and to Endeavour Press for approving me and allowing me to read and review this book Well where to start? Lady Anne has uite an in depth story and a long one spanning 86 years She was in court during the reign of ueen Elizabeth I and died during the time of King Charles II I do feel that her story could have been told a bit in depth But I didn't like the way the story was told either It has been told in a kind of diary format but I never knew where the diary ended and the narrator started again I loved Anne and her stubbornness even when a King got involved in her affairs with her husband she was still stubborn Her stubbornness and patience won out in the end Anne married twice and had 2 daughters She did also give birth to 5 sons but all 5 died She certainly had a tough time with her 2 husbands although she loved both fiercely In all this was a good book even though I did have a tough time trying to keep up and also trying to figure out the end of a diary entry and the start of the narrators entry I got rather confused truth be told I'm going to give this book a 35 rating because of the way it has been written and the fact I got confused

Frankly rather boringDiary pages fictitious or true? of Anne Clifford with added biographical commentary by a former servant Anne was an aristocratic woman who lived through the end of the reign of Elizabeth I and then that of James I and Charles I including the Civil War The main interest in her based on this book is that she refused to accept first her husband's and then the king's ruling that her estates in the north of England should be soldThe book mixes references to historical events of the time and biographical detail The first are superficial the couple of lines you would find in a timeline And so are the second with neither the character nor her times coming to lifeThe book has the dryness of a factual tome but lacks the depth that would make that interesting and the authority which would make it convincing
