I enjoyed this book but felt it rushed along with at times not much depth or plausibilityFor example man An Earl Joshua meets girl Duke’s daughterViolet in the garden at a ball where she has just witnessed a murder later at the same ball he has one waltz with her then the next day he posts a betrothal notice in the papers He feels that she will only be safe after witnessing the murder if he marries her He on the uiet works on cases of intrigue and he was in the garden to try to stop whatever was going to occurThe marriage takes place the day after the ball Her father a Duke no less goes along with it I don’t think this is at all plausible or likely I do concede that her parents thought she was well on the way to being a spinster and that once the betrothal notice had been posted then a marriage had to take place to avoid a scandal but a marriage uite so soon? BUT she IS a Duke’s daughter and society would have expected a very grand wedding A rushed seemingly secret wedding would also have risked a huge scandal that would have blighted her younger sister’s marital chancesViolet doesn't realise the reason he wishes marriage but Joshua gives her some ‘flannel’ about holding her in some affection uite so soon? Is she simple? which is not true she agrees to go along with the swift marriage When she realises that he did not hold her ‘in some affection’ she is upset as she only wished to marry for real affection and love However she uickly forgives him really? would any woman be so forgiving after virtually being forced into marriage and having been fed a line? This is an instance when there should have been a leisurely exploration of the relationship and romance it all seemed a bit rushed to uickly get to a suitable resolutionHaving said all that I did enjoy the book The plot was good fast paced and intriguing and the book was a fun read Romance and mystery all rolled into oneI would recommend this book for an easy fun readI received a ARC for an honest review

Another great story by Ellie St Clair Book 2 of the Searching Hearts series does not disappoint The title of the series is apropos due to the heroine Lady Violet being determined to marry for love only Attending a ball she witnesses a murder when out in the garden getting some fresh air In a strange twist Lord Joshua Greville Earl of Wanfield comes upon Violet and is set to rescue her from a potential murderer trying to harm her He is secretly involved in a group that invests criminal activities and Violet is in the middle of his current case So much to everyone's surprise he uickly announces their betrothal to keep Violet from harm and tries to place her in the country for her safety Well spunky Violet has other ideas and follows the Earl back to help investigate the crime This is a really good story full of mystery and many twist and turns that will have you turning the pages to find out what happens As with all of Ellie St Clair's books you will be anticipating the next story when you turn the last page

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review The story is about an Earl who marries a young woman Violet who is the daughter of a Duke solely to keep her safe after witnessing a murder Joshua and his friend investigate the murder and eventually catch the mastermind The book is interesting and holds your attention because it involves a murder an attempted murder investigation into the case and a marriage eventually surrounded in love There is a HEA to the story The book is appropriate for any age and the romantic parts are very vanilla I would recommend this for a good read

  4. BP34 BP34 says:

Violet wants to marry for love and not have an arranged marriage She constantly fights her mother's attempts to marry her off While attending a ball she witnesses a murder and is in immediate danger She is rescued by Lord Joshua Greville Earl of Wanfield who wants to protect her from the murderer He announces their marriage and takes her to his country house for protection while he solves the murder She follows him as she is determine to be a part of the investigation Lots of drama and suspense in this sweet clean historical romance I received an advance copy and voluntarily chose to review

  5. Laura Bayer Laura Bayer says:

Loved it This story deftly combines romance and mystery As usual Ellie St Clair creates well developed characters that result in a rich story atmosphere The plot is exciting fraught with danger and intrigue Yet romance is not sidelined Violet and Joshua are brought together by the mystery but must each resolve their inner conflict and find their paths to their happily ever after I was kindly provided an advanced reader copy in return for an honest review Honestly I loved this story and highly recommend it

  6. Diane Diane says:

Violet has clearly stated desire but circumstances change and she is rushed into marriage for her own protection Her new husband makes some terrible mistakes for which he is sorry He demonstrates that he is truly sorry but sharing of his life with her than he expected He changes his habits to please herI liked his friend and hope that there will be a story about him He understood what the husband did wrong before Violet confronts him The friends gives him good advice

  7. Debra Debra says:
