Chris Arthur's prose is at times astoundingly beautiful; I found myself marking whole paragraphs that I loved until I gave up marking because it was all great At times though Arthur does get a little too verbose for my taste sometimes I wanted him to be straightforward and less flowery I found that I liked the book better when I read the essays one at a time spaced throughout other books I was reading instead of cover to cover all at once When I read it all at once it started to get a little redundant Still I gave it 4 stars because the essays I loved were good enough to redeem the ones I didn't like as much My favorite essays were Kingfishers Ferrule Linen Swan Song Table Manners and Mistletoe
