An interesting overview of places to cycle in Britain but spoilt a little for me by the slightly odd tone of the book It's written as if for beginner cyclists with detailed descriptions of what a bike is how to change a tyre etc and contains several easy cycle routes in various parts of the country However it constantly refers back to Harold Briarcliffe's 1940s cycling guides which seem to have been for much experienced cyclists and from the uotes were written by a man who appears to have disliked most of the places he visited There's also slightly bizarre historical interludes and sections drawing on a cycle tour around the UK made by Clare Balding So it's not uite clear what the point of the book is

  2. Harry Coen Harry Coen says:

I was particularly impressed by Jane Eastoe's nannyish advice to readers about the need to wear high visibility vests and helmets at all times when riding Yet not even in one of the many pictures of Clare Balding that pepper the text does the presenter wear either
