What sounds like a good idea turns out to be a religious tract aimed at our moral edification and fitted out with the trappings of a novel The dreary account of one character's homosexuality and the self hatred it might propagate among gays living in the sixties might be considered uite and achievement for this book but the author gives us a two fer The straight protagonist dies a perfectly uick and horrible death from a terrifying sexually transmitted disease I can only imagine Julien Green's glee when AIDS hit a couple of decades later You see what happens when we fall away from the Church kids?

I enjoy Green’s books but this one was overly dramatic and confusing at times with an unneeded soap opera ending
