Truly laugh out loud funny this book is like an archer Wind in the Willows and reads like an adult novel in the satire department while keeping the conflicts and resolutions on the low key level for children readers Never cute but undeniably adorable full of memorable characters and sly soft punches at all kinds of social situations and pawns it's one of those rare children's books that will satisfy much older readers and bring a smile to their face especially if they are a bit of an anglophile and catch onto the witty sardonic tone Marshall is so gleefully parodying and celebrating

  2. Samantha Samantha says:

Emily and Eugene try to cheer up their friend who isn't feeling well When Eugene reads him a story about an adventure involving all three friends it becomes a story within a storyThe fictional adventure of Emily Eugene and Carruthers reads a lot like Alice's journey through Wonderland The group meets new zany characters in each chapter and visit towns where things aren't uite what they seem In the end all the armchair adventures improve Carruthers' condition and mood and the friends vow to experience real adventures come summertimeA great chapter a day before bedtime read or a good read aloud for younger classrooms

  3. Alaina Alaina says:

    Carruthers is a real pill
