    My daughter recently started back at school and already had her first major assignment in History Since it's election season the teacher wanted to tie the post Civil War treatment of blacks to the election and how far we've come as a nation with a sitting African American president After looking over the paper reuirements my daughter selected Virginia as the state she wanted to focus her report on and I found this book for herI downloaded the sample and was impressed enough to buy it outright My daughter still has trouble with reports so I usually help her focus her readings to important things She was as intrigued with some of the stories and anecdotes as I was After going through most of the book this weekend I found it exceptionally informative and helpful Not only were the stories interesting on their own merits it was a wonderful source for information to help my daughter that few if any of her classmates will have found themselvesI'd recommend this book to anyone with an interest or need to know about post Civil War southern history
