What is a beautifully written riveting almost 5 stars angsty heaven hell for the first half even till 34th of the way turns into agony by the end the nail wrenching blubbering kind and not in a good wayThe barely passing Arts graduate h from a science background family has difficulty landing jobs so decides upon a housekeeper job to a widower with a 7 years old daughter Now since the H a supercilious snooty scientist hates anyone or anything to do with the artsliterary world and also is paranoid that women want to be his housekeeper to land his oh so eligible ass so she dons an uneducated unattractive persona to land the jobThe h starts out as a sly and smart spitfire who gives him back as good or better but he soon wore down her spirit insult by insult as towards the end she barely musters up a tired word in her defense while his hateful verbal abuses roll on unabatedThe H just didn't know when to uit his asshat act; maybe the author forgot too? So when did heshe fall in love? Between his sadistically abusing her daily reminding her plebeian status to her twice per page or perhaps during his paranoid accusations of her being after a wedding ring or during smacking her soundly for protecting his neglected defenseless 7 yrs old from his slapping fury More unforgivable is that he never shows any loveaffectioninterest in his daughter or her emotionalphysical wellbeing beyond providing a roof and food for her He is the most neglectful parent I’ve ever read about and there isn't even the usual stupid explanation like her not being his biological child etc In fact he treats his daughter just marginally better than the h Childcare authorities should love to get their hands on himIf the h had any sense she should have been out of there like a tortured bat out of a loony hell She keeps telling herself that she is staying for the child but it becomes clear many times that it's the prize of a H who is also the incentivePerhaps I would have thought of him and even forgiven him had he thrashed that sleazeball om who was forever pawing the h and and she too lets him so that he wont expose her educated bg to the H rather than just waving him offAnd as the cherry he never even says sorry or repents Rather our ‘spiny’ h asks his forgiveness for being the despicable arts graduate that she is the biggest sin in the supercilious idiot’s opinion since perhaps the apple incidence in EdenAN All secondary characters are very well etched or interesting her lovely loving and yet exasperating family the sweet friendly neighbour couple the lonely yearning child who latches onto the h with gusto the cold superior scientist ow his female clone the most sleazy om ever the real ick factor I wanted to slap her seriously for not discouraging him her 3 boy friends John Ron and maybe Don ? and even the cleaning lady at the beginningOne who is most rememberable is her smart mouth brother her loving nemesis And yes a sound thrashing for the om and a decent grovelly ending would have easily taken this book to 45 stars for me

Puzzling story that only works if you accept the premise that an attractive woman with three boy friends Ron Don and John who has a university degree and a loving family would fall in love with a verbally abusive eccentric like the heroEccentric is the kindest way to describe this scientist hero who makes fibers in a test tube yes double knit is one of his many sins He has a long list of things he hates onions being the first thing the heroine learns He also dislikes people with degrees in the arts heroine has an English degree plain women who are intelligent and beautiful women who are stupid his own daughter his neighbors Everyone talks about him as if he is a lovable scamp who says cruel things all the time to everyoneSo the heroine becomes the hero's housekeeper because she can't find a job with her useless degree In the course of the story she has two job offers She immediately falls for the hero's six year old daughter and then falls for the heroThe conflict in the story is the hero stripping her of her lies one by one The fake glasses go first Then the dowdy clothes etc The final lie of I'm an English major is almost the straw that breaks this camel's back LOL WeirdThere is a rapey OM and a bitchy OW Nice neighbors The hero slaps the heroine as she is standing up for his daughter So lots of drama and an old skool hero I wouldn't say he's an alpha because he's just so uirky and weird in his likes and dislikes Heroine is pretty great but she lets the lies go on too long and for no good reason except she just wants to be near her cruel heroSee Preeti's review for spoilers

Wow I have no idea how to rate this one On the one hand the writing was excellent and I liked the heroine and her brother and the neighbours and even the Plot Moppet On the other hand the hero was so utterly awful that by the end I felt as if I was reading a case study of the cycle of abuse than a romance Particular hatred for the scene where he smacks her in the face while she's sheltering his child I might add and she loves him all the for being passionate and not completely controlled Jesus lady run

  4. Roub Roub says:

the title refers to the last scene in the book where the heroine is expected to be gone before morning but the hero stopped her and declared his undying love lol i was grabbed from the first page as kim disguised herself and told a pack of horrible lies to get the job the story was at best far fetched as i can't imagine a girl of kim's background knowing the 1st thing about doing household chores so how she managed and was very good at it? i dunno she was really highly efficient what's she had the tenacity to stand up to owen and telling him some home truths which was badly needed for the man was an asshole i wud have rated the story a 4 star but i minused one due to owen's belittling attitude towards kim
